In an alternate reality, Earth is known as Kaemazh. Kaemazh is inhabited by twelve sapient species - known collectively as zhamim. Long ago a vast, antiquarian civilization called the Louzho Empire - after a long reign - fell into disarray. In the centuries that followed, a great cultural and technological revolution occurred that came to be known as the Zunku Era. In modern times, zhamim live in a prosperous, technological society infused with individualistic philosophy and decentralized, polytheistic spirituality. Within the vibrant, lush temenos of the Vorno Temple is the Krounon bookstore - run by a hyenid kloumi named Taman. He lends aid and gives advice to people in the southern, eremic city of Fronozh.
